Dr Ware is qualified to provide guidance to GP Registrars. Registrars are fully-trained Doctors who already have much experience in all branches of medicine, who may be attached to the Practice for up to eighteen months to gain experience and final qualification in General Practice.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare Assistants support Practice Nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement, INRs, ECGs and New Patient Health Checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or Doctor requests one.

Practice Manager and Non-Clinical Partner

The Practice Manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the Practice such as ensuring the right systems are in place to provide high quality patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises, equipment and information technology. Together they work with the Doctors and other healthcare professionals to monitor and deliver patient services and develop pathways to enhance patient care.

Reception

Our receptionists provide an important link for patients with the Practice and are your initial contact in the surgery or by telephone for any enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the Doctors and Nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions, dealing with prescription enquiries, registering patients and managing patient records.

Secretaries

Our Practice Secretaries deal with correspondence and referrals to hospitals. In their role as PAs (Personal Assistants) to the Doctors, they form an important link between Doctors and patients and other healthcare professionals/organisations.

Community Midwives

Midwives are based at the Greenways Unit at Chippenham Community Hospital where you can contact them on 01249-456434.When you see your doctor for the first time in a pregnancy you will automatically be put in touch with the midwives.

Specialist Nurses

Specialist Nurses are fully-trained Nurses who have extra training to help with the special nursing problems that can happen with Cancer, Asthma, Eczema, Diabetes, problems with continence, etc. MacMillan Nurses are Specialist Nurses who help patients and their families with serious illnesses like cancer. They are based at Dorothy House in Winsley.You can contact them on 01225 722988. Your Doctor, Consultant, Practice Nurse or District Nurse will request them to contact you if they can help.

Community Nurses

District nurses are based at the Health Centre in Broken Cross, where you can contact them on 01249-810370. You can also leave messages for them at the surgery, and your doctor will contact them if he or she wants them to visit you.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing. To contact the Health Visitors please telephone 0300 247 0090. If you have just had a baby the Health Visitor will automatically visit you soon after you come home with your baby.

Community Psychiatric Nurses

Community Psychiatric Nurses are based at Rowden Hill House in Chippenham. where. Your Doctor will put you in touch with them if you need their help.

Dieticians

Dieticians are available to Northlands Surgery and the Health Centre. Your Doctor will arrange an appointment if you need help with a special diet e.g. for diabetes, to lose weight, etc.

Family Planning

An evening Family Planning Clinic is held every Tuesday at the Health Centre in Broken Cross. You can book an appointment there on 01722 425120.Family Planning Clinics are also held in nearby towns.

IAPT

You can self-refer to IAPT on 01380 731335 or a pack is available from Northlands reception.

Physiotherapists

We have weekly appointments available with our in-house Physiotherapist. Please call the surgery on 01249 812141 or pop into the surgery to make an appointment. Podiatrists

A podiatrist is based at the Health Centre in Broken Cross. You can contact them via 01249-456635. If you need to visit the podiatrist, ask for a form from the Health Centre, or from Northlands reception. Fill in the form and hand it in. There is no need to see your Doctor and your Doctor does not have to sign the form unless you are requesting a home visit from the Chiropodist. If you are over sixty, pregnant, diabetic, registered disabled or still at school you will get priority.
